Fixed output heat pumps operate by switching on or off continuously. When turned on, a fixed output heat pump works at 100% capacity until the heat demand is met and then cycles to heat between on and off.
However, inverter heat pumps use an inverter compressor to regulate its output, thus accurately matching the building's heat demand.
Inverter heat pumps use more sophisticated technology than fixed output units, but this does not mean they are less reliable than fixed output units.
