The fan coils/blowers are connected to the external unit via ducting. 

They are typically installed inside the exterior wall near the outside unit to reduce the interior required duct length. 

When planning a multi-fan system, installers often try to minimize the length of ducting to each fan location. 

You can ask the installer about possible ducting routes before they begin work.

Duct systems are often used in very energy-efficient houses. Some types of duct systems are called exhaust air heat pumps (EAHPs). Duct systems may not be well suited for older or larger houses with higher heating needs.

 

The long, thin duct design allows a large amount of air to move through the house. You can hide these ducts in ceiling gaps. All visible from each room are two grid grilles mounted in the ceiling, one for inflow into the room and one for outflow.

The air is heated in an air handling unit about the size of a boiler, usually installed in the attic or utility room.
