Split and ducted heat pumps
Split heat pump systems have an outdoor unit and an indoor unit. The outdoor and indoor units contain a heat exchanger coil made of copper connected to the refrigerant line and have a heat distribution duct system.
Due to its good performance, the split system can be used in all climates, from temperate to cold regions. It is the most installed and user-friendly type of heat pump in the residential sector.
Mini-split and ductless heat pump
Mini-split heat pumps are mainly used for localized room heating/cooling in places where ducts do not exist or cannot be installed. These are called ductless heat pumps due to their small size and ease of handling and installation - on walls or ceilings.
Mini-split heat pumps are recommended for retrofitting homes. They typically have one outdoor unit and one or more indoor units for a multizone climate.
Single Packaged Systems
The opposite of the split systems mentioned above are packaged systems, which combine all the components into one outdoor system, while the cooling or heating air is transferred to the house through ducts.
The main advantages of this system are that the unit is installed outdoors to help reduce noise, it can serve different zones, and it permits quick installation and maintenance.
