There are hidden dangers in gas water heaters, which make many families dare not choose. Now, the emergence of air source heat pump water heaters overcomes the worries of consumers, makes it easy and practical for consumers, and saves electricity and gas costs. So, we can say, using an air source heat pump is like killing two birds with one stone. Then, how to install an air source heat pump water heater? We are here to explain the installation guide step by step.

Install the Heat Pump Unit

  1. The air source heat pump (ASHP) unit can be installed on the exterior wall, roof, balcony or ground;

  2. First, place the mounting rack to aim at the wall, then use the oil pen to mark the drilling position, drill holes on the wall according to the marks, install the expansion bolts to secure the assembled rack and fix it firmly with nuts;

  3. Then fasten the unit to the rack with screws and nuts;

  4. If it is installed outdoors, a canopy can also be installed for the heat pump unit, which does not only keep it off the rain but also prevents it from sun exposure.

Install the Hot Water Tank

  1. In addition to indoors, the water storage tank can be installed outdoors with the heat pump unit, such as at the balcony, roof and ground.

  2. Vales are placed near the tap-water tank and at the joint of the water pipe and the hot water pipe;

  3. One way safety valve must be installed at the water inlet. If there is water dripping at the pressure relief port of one-way safety valve, it is a pressure relief phenomenon and plays a protective role. Just connect it with a drain hose.

Water Piping Connecting Modes

  1. Use PP-R pipe to connect the outlet joint with the water storage tank and seal it with PTFE tape;

  2. One end of the check valve is connected with the tap-water pipe, and the other end is connected with the water inlet pipe of the water storage tank;

  3. Fill with water: open the tap water inlet valve, and turn on the faucet of the hot water pipe. Start to fill water until the outlet faucet overflows, and turn off the outlet faucet. Implement the water storage leakage detection to ensure no water leakage.

Heating Pipe Connection

  1. Drill a 70mm diameter pipe hole on the wall between the water storage tank and the air source heat pump unit, and the hole should be slightly inclined outwards. Wrap the joining pipes and a certain length of cable with plastic binding tape, pass them through the drilled pipe hole, and cover both sides with the wall pipe sheath;

  2. Take off the cap of the head on the fine and coarse joining pipes of the water tank, screw the pipes to the joint on those of the water tank respectively, and tighten them with wrench;

  3. Screw off the head cap of the coarse and fine joining pipes of the high-pressure valve and low-pressure valve of the unit, screw the other end of the pipes to the working medium inlet of the water tank. Tighten the working medium inlet of the pipes with wrench. Please note: the coarse pipe connects the three-way valve and the upper joint of the water tank.

Electrical Connection

  1. Make sure all sockets are reliably grounded;

  2. According to the current and power requirements of different heat pump types, select sockets with corresponding voltage;

  3. The power supply line must be equipped with a full-stage disconnection leakage protector of appropriate specification (1.5-2 times of rated current);

  4. Do not place other electrical equipment around the unit's power socket to avoid the tripping of the leakage protection plug;

  5. Install and fasten the water temperature sensor inside the sensor tube in the middle of the water tank.

Pipeline Discharge

  1. Remove the cap from the regulating port of the low-pressure valve and the high-pressure valve;

  2. Connect the vacuum pump joint to the fluorine injection port;

  3. Ensure that the vacuum degree is qualified, and the evacuation time is no less than 20 minutes. If the evacuation does not change, R22 refrigerant can be used for external evacuation and leakage detection, and the gas pressure of the residual refrigerant after discharge shall not exceed 0.005MPa;

  4. Leakage detection: use soap water to check whether there is any leakage at the connection of each pipe and the cap mouth. If there is, use a wrench to tighten it until there is no leakage. No leakage is allowed.

Test Run

  1. Connect the cold water pipe with the water inlet at the safety valve position (the cold water pipe joint should be equipped with a maintenance valve);

  2. The most important part of water filling to the water tank (filling must be completed before the connection of the hot water pipe). After the water from the hot water outlet flows out (indicating that the water tank has been filled with water), close the valve and stop filling;

  3. Connect the hot water pipe and open the water inlet valve;

  4. Plug in power to start the operation;

  5. Check the water pipes and electric wires, listen to the sound, inspect the fans, and observe the dashboard. After 10 minutes of operation, if everything is in a good condition, the test run is completed.
